The Crossword Book Awards has unveiled the much-awaited longlist for its 20th edition in 2026, bringing together an exciting mix of books and authors from across India. Spanning fiction, history, culture, children’s literature, translations, and business, this year’s selection reflects the diversity of stories and ideas shaping the country’s literary landscape.

The longlist features titles across five categories: Fiction, Non-fiction, Translations, Children’s Books, and Business & Management. From literary mysteries and historical narratives to investigative non-fiction, picture books, and stories rooted in India’s cultural heritage, the selection brings together established literary voices alongside emerging perspectives.

Commenting on the announcement, Nidhi Gupta, Director, Crossword Bookstores, said, “This year’s longlist reflects the many ways literature continues to engage with India today. It is an incredibly strong and diverse selection of books, bringing together a wide range of voices and perspectives. We’re grateful to our jury for the thought and rigour they bring to this process.”

The next stage of the Crossword Book Awards 2026 will see the announcement of the Jury Awards shortlist and the Popular Choice Awards shortlist in October. The Popular Choice Awards will give readers an opportunity to cast their votes for their favourite books.

The winners will be announced at the Crossword Book Awards ceremony in December.

Marking two decades of the awards, the 2026 longlist brings together books that engage with a range of subjects, including technology, ecology, identity, migration, entrepreneurship, and India’s cultural heritage. It also highlights the contribution of publishers, translators, illustrators, and authors to the country’s evolving literary ecosystem.

The jury for this year’s awards includes names such as Anuja Chauhan, Jyoti Malhotra, Rama Bijapurkar, Ranjit Lal, and Meena Kandasamy, representing diverse fields including fiction, journalism, business, children’s literature, and translation.
